Tiffany Kwok
Hi! I’m Tiffany, a multi-passionate crafter, tinkerer, and problem solver.
I am in my final year of study for my Master of Information Science degree at San Jose State University. Throughout this program, I have been interested in incorporating my background in the sciences with library and information sciences by exploring emerging technologies, STEAM education, and maker spaces. I have also been interested in exploring how these topics can be incorporated into a public library environment.
I am currently the User Services Technician with the Information Service Department at the Orillia Public Library. In this role, I am part of the team developing the new Makerspace and I also provide Reader’s Advisory services.
For about five years, I was the Lab Coordinator for an art and science-focused maker and teaching space called Action Potential Lab (APL). As Lab Coordinator, my job was mainly administrative, but this role extends far beyond paperwork. I had the best time working here because it is an environment of exploration! A few things I had the chance to explore (and this is just the tip of the iceberg) include planning activities for classes, exploring my interests in coding and electronics, flexing my problem-solving skills, experimenting with different creative tools and materials, as well as developing my design skills.
When I am not working or studying, I freelance as a graphics designer and social media manager. I also love creating and experimenting with different art techniques. As a result, there are always a bunch of in-progress creative projects littered around my home. My other hobbies include reading, hanging out with my Mini Rex- Dusty, trying to perfect a new baked excellent/culinary dish, and finding out how to make unique pieces for my me-made clothing collection.
